Brighton & Hove University of the Third Age
A short course which uses the Internet to help you trace your ancestors. We will start from scratch, although a very basic understanding of how to use a computer is needed. For those without an internet connection we will see how to use the excellent free facilities in all the local libraries.
Both census data (esp. 1901 and 1881) and registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths can be freely viewed on line, although there are modest charges if you want copies of certificates. As well as enabling you to help trace your own family, the on-line and local resources give a fascinating insight into the social history of Victorian Britain.
The group has access to a small Wi Fi network, to which some members add their own laptop, so that, if you don't have access to a computer at home, there is scope for searching the Internet in class.
