Brighton & Hove University of the Third Age
This group meets to read plays aloud for enjoyment rather than critical analysis. For one and three quarter hours members are offered a chance to escape from their own reality into the worlds of mystery, romance and comedy.
Members of the Group who are willing to organise the rest of the class take it in turns to choose the play. This is not difficult but may require skill depending on the play and the number of characters involved.
It is advisable for the co-ordinator to pre-read the play; plan and note the best place where characters may be switched so that all participants feel they are contributing to the play. Those who are apprehensive about this task may choose to work with a partner. It generally takes two weeks to read a play but there are of course exceptions. We all have lots of fun! Half way through the afternoon there is a break for refreshments and a chance to talk.
Maximum number 12-16.
